Aww. If that were my dog i would have done the same thing. I hope that he pulls round. Im sure he will.
thanks Bruce... the dog is doing so well even if it is borrowed time.. my daughter went the extra mile because she loves him... and i love that she has such a warm caring responcible heart..

Thats great =] glad to see the dog is doing well, like its been said they easily adapt to 3 legs so thats good!! Your daughter is awesome for doing that.

My cat had a big kidney stone (intrestingly enough the same time I had one lol) and it was surgery or put her down and my dad wanted to put her down at 2yrs old but my mom and I refused so we got her the surgery =] she is on a diet now and doing good. I think if you love your pet then its always worth it.

Glad to see he is doing so well and that your daughter made that decision. I know when Jack got hit by a car they said the easiest thing to do was amputate his leg. We opted for surgery, which it turned out was the first successful one on a dog. His bills ended up being four grand, but he's part of the family and it's only money. Six years later you wouldn't know anything had happened except when he's standing or walking slow. I know a lot of people told us we were crazy for spending that kind of money on a dog, as I'm sure she was, but you do what you have to do.

Thank you so much everyone who was so uplifting.. it was not a hard decision for my daughter..love and loyalty wins over ..but it is so good to hear how many of you understand... your all such a great group of people.. every time i see your replys...i know why you all mean so much to me... thanks again...

Well this was the same thing that killed my dog last summer:( Started on a leg about 8 years ago, we decided not to operate or amputate and she lived a healty happy life untill it finely spreaded to her lungs and we had to put her down. It really is a hard but we had to let her go. And you guys must acept that simply your dog´s life is coming to a end. Great that he survived surgery and all but it will simply apear a point in wich it will no longer worth putting your beloved pet in all the stress and pain. If that had happened to me I would simply let him enjoy its last mouths or years wolle and also considering this is a old dog than having a leg amputed. In my dogs case it was not a opcion both because she was overweigth(every body told us that would kill her but at the end it did not, go figure) and so it would put a great efort in 3 legs. Sirurgy was also not a opcion because she was a old animal already and the vet told us it would be a high risk one. I dont regret doing anything that I did, she lived a absolutley deligoth full life with us without sirurgy for like 12 years(she was already adult when we got her, she was a rescue). Im not trying to argue with you or discoraging what you guys did:) Im just saying that in some cases its better simply let things run its normal corse. One of my dad´s ofice friends had a beautifull great dane that for the age of 6 was diagnosticed a irreversible muscular condicion. The vet said "I can put him to sleep or we can try something". Pressioned by its kids and wife he decided to try something. In its own words"its the worse thing Ive ever did". He spended a pile of cash in medicacions and terapys and only had very temporary results. In the end the dog was putted to sleep anyway but having to cope with much more pain and disconfort than if it had been putted to sleep in the first place. We love our dogs so much that sometimes we have to do for them a last but not least, very unselfish thing of letting them go:)

i totally agree with you... in this case it was take the leg to relieve the pain or put him to sleep...she was not ready to say goodbye.. and he has no pain now and even plays ball... we fully realize when things turn it will then be time...

Your daughter has a good heart. She made a very difficult decision that most would not have made. Probably why she has chosen the career that she did. She'd make a great Medic too, because you can't teach compassion.
