Just would like to say thanks to Chicxulub, Egon, and Estarego8 for all of the posts in this thread. I literally went through all 21 pages reading your posts and appreciate all of the knowledge that you have compiled about these amazing fish. Hope the goonches are doing well, love all the updates.

Thank you for your kind words! We are getting to know these little known fish and their behavior more and more every day. It is truly amazing how little is known of these fish. All of the data we share with each other are all things we are learning about these magnificent animals and is pretty much free flowing on here in our goonch threads. (one is stickied in the catfish media lounge) We plan to compile as much information we can about this fish and share it for all who are interested! Always feel free to ask questions or request pictures of sorts :)

As I was reading on earlier pages you had acquired another goonch catfish. One being a B Yarrelli the other a B Rutilus, Chicxlub pointed out some of the differences
distinguish it from yarelli was the relative lackbof spots and very distinct dark bands. Yarelli tends to have indistinct bands and lots of spots. Another key diagnostic trait is the fact that rutilus lacks a series of ridges going down the back between the dorsal fins which yarelli displays. There are also a series of internal morphological differences that are not apparent to a hobbyist with a live fish.
Also mentioned the eye shape, the rutilus having oval eyes and the yarrelli having circular eyes.

That being said, dose one of these grow larger than the other? I did a little research and found some evidence that would suggest that the Y is the biggest. Do all of the bagarius species grow to 6+feet?

Only Bagarius cf. "yarrelli" is presently understood to achieve huge sizes. There are however likely two separate Indian species that achieve huge sizes. The rest won't get over three feet.

I don't want to get any more into it than that here, stay tuned for a post on this subject in the coming week in the Catfish section.

There is no Yarrelli :0
