my discus biotope

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow loads of poats before mine posted haha,

i have just had my katapanga leaves turn up this morning, and since the pics i added a bottle of black water tonic.

went home at dinner to see if my pipes had thawed haha but they hadn't. so at the moment i can drain water but not add it, so until the weather warms up i will add conditioned buckets of water to teh tank and allow the water to drain on the timer.

im putting in a few more litres than i take out, then the excess water is what i take out while cleaning the substrate.

regarding the water change, its true juves need water constantly, but i only have 5 discus in teh tank, and the tetra's and cory's practically add no bio load, so i will start at 20l a day and monitor nitrates, and if needed step it up a little..

Hi.. Once again I have to agree with Lupin...
Especially with juvie discus the more water changes the better. Some folks, that are not breeders or stuffing their tanks with fish, even do twice daily. Even with my adults in the 120 I did a 50% water change at least once and usually twice a week.. afterwards you could actually see them SMILING HAHA. The water changes remove all sorts of things from the water that you can't measure with test strips..Suprisingly most of your hardy plants won't mind.. Hard to tell what you have in the tank..but looks like you have a few up top.
Tank is looking great HTH Sue:D

haha all the plants are faulse lol

yeah true, but i messed up my calculations i used a drip check calculator, so by changing out what i am in drip change im taking 50% out a week,

but im actually having the timer come on and remove 10l , then 15 mins later replace 12l and it does this twice so on the tank i am physically changing 24l a day, on a tank that is around 210 litres, so i think i should be fine

Just watch your nitrates. Even though my large tanks run 2 gph drip, I find that my nitrates will rise to unacceptable levels if I don't do at least one large weekly water change. My tanks are rather packed with discus however, but just wanted to give you the heads up. :D
