MY DIY christmas LED lighting, project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok I ordered 2 more strings, just means 200 more holes I have to drill. If thats not enough to make me happy then I think I will just scrap the leds on my fish tank. 1200LEDS on a 330 gal would just be ridiculous if I needed more.

Good luck drilling all those holes and all that wiring. I'm going the cold cathode route as they are cheap and are less troublesome

if I knew I was gonna need these many leds I would have went a diff route. If I dont like em I can throw all the coolwhites on the girls 55gallon, would be more than enough for her tank.

They say they come in t12,t8 and t5's. I googled em and ebayed em. I wish I would have known before I started this!

I was originally going to buy strips of 250 Led christmas lights from HD for 25$ each, but for that price it would take $100+ to get the same amount that you have.. Glad I chose the Cathode route =)

The blue & red LED's aren't doing you any good during the day, so I would swap the red for more whites & put the blue on a timer for night only. I think that would be plenty bright.

Ok so I will take out the red, put a white in its place, and drill 100 more holes for the other white. Ill update when the package arrives. ( Hoping in under 2 weeks)

Another question. Does the spacing matter much? As in, the board is 2' wide as is, would i get more light "penetration" if say I cut the board in half making it a 1'x3'? Or would that not be effective in lighting up areas and leaving dark spots.
