My DIY driftwood pieces.

I found some drift wood on the bank by my local river, but they were to big to boil. I rinsed then off and scubbed them, then I boiled water and put the wood in a covered trashcan to soak. I also used a cup of bleach in the water, and I have no ill side effects from this process. After I soaked the wood for 2 weeks, changing the water daily, I let it dry completely out. This was so that all the bleach would evaporate. After each of the pieces was completely dried I soaked the wood again in my brackish water using 4x the amount of declorinater. I now have the pieces in my 90 gallon brackish tank, and my fish couldn't be happier......

All the pieces came out of the local lake (the Great Sacandaga Lake), its a reservoir that floods into the forests in the spring, then recedes back out over the course of the season. It creates this freshwater mangrove type area that makes for some nice driftwood.

i've used a little bleach when curing found wood before, i just let is soak in water with a lot of declorinater.. like 10x the normal then drainet it and did this again, and had no ill side affects, not telling you to do his just letting you know what i did.
