well my question was more like..what to add to bring best color.. spirulina isn't cheap on mexico..well all quality fish food isn't cheap..so an alternative was what i was looking for

A nice natural cheap alternative is adding duckweed or elodea. Either collected from creeks (safely sanitised with alum) or grow your own in tubs. Both grow profusely and a natural food source for fish. Its not single celled but will still bring out natural colours due to improved natural diet.

If you include shrimp/krill with shell the caratenoids will enhance RED in fish. Some other ideas often discussed which I have not yet tried are:

  • Paprika. Red Pepper Meal. More potent than spirulina, and contains red pigments ready to be absorbed and assimilated immediately.
  • Marigold Flower Meal. Probably one of the most potent natural sources of carotenoids available.
  • Artificial Colour Enhancers. Astaxanthin and Canthaxanthin are guaranteed, potent sources of colour in the form that will be exhibited immediately in the skin.
  • A Yeast - Phaffia rhodozyma. This is easily digested and is a recognised source of carotene and astaxanthin.

I made some of this today and it looks pretty good so far. I bet adding a whole fish would be even better

anyone know what type of geletin to use? got a pic?
