Lol. It was pretty easy. Just cut a small piece of the type of wood that you wanna join. Measure the center from both sides. Use a drill press to get your holes straight, drill each hole 1" in from each side. in the center where the two line intersect use a finish nail that goes all the way through the block. PLace the block where you want the holes and pound the finish nail through to hold it in place. Tape your drill bit to set the depth and drill your holes. pull the jig off and pound the nail back through. move on to the next set. And voila!! All of your holes are the same depth, distance apart, and both side line up!!

Ahh now I get it, I think lol. To find the center, you just measure say a 2x4 (3.5 in) and divide by 2 to get 1.75, this is how you get your cross lines, correct ? Then 1" from each side.
I don't have a drill press, I have a power drill, do they have something in the form of a bit that I can use ? Do you cut your own dowels from the long ones they sell at Home Depot or do they have preset sizes based on your hole ?

Re: your box frame setup, curious why the two ends were placed differently from the others, one inside and one outside, does that make it more stable ?

Yes. Exactly.

I bought pre-cut 3/8"x2" dowels. Just use a 3/8" bit to drill your holes in your jig. The only reason I used the drill press was to make sure that the holes were perfectly straight. A power drill would work, just be careful.

I did that so that the upper and lower frames would be staggered from the legs on most corners. If you look at the last pic the legs are staggered from the top boards.

I tried to cheat and buy a dowel jig but it didn't fit the wood lol One of these days I want to get one of those Kreg Jigs, those things look sweet too. Your tank is in the right spot, looking good, the fish will be able to watch tv lol.
