I think the tank in the video was using magnets since it was a metal stand. No updates on the panels. I'm in the process of fabbing them up now. I will update as I go!! I moved the tank to the stand but realized I had a cracked bulkhead, so that set me back a little bit.

So far the plans look great. If you don't care for the catches, I would also suggest the Magnet catches found at the hardware store. I've used them multiple times on stands and they work very well.

I need some of that & Im gona put L Brackets on the bottom so the panels sits on it.

Good update. I need to get rid of my cheap iron stand asap. Its piercing my felt pad & soon my hardwood floor.

Im sure im gonna have not much fun screwing the legs at an angle.

Heres my build today. Finish building the structure of stand. First time doing carpentry work. I stained it tonight. Im gona put clear coat tomorrow. I was thinking not to even paint the structure part. Im gonna have to go back & buy also a board for the base of it. Doesnt wiggle like my cheap metal stand which is standing on four legs thats almost piercing thru my hardwood floors

Now question is, what type of magnet does that youtube vid use? My local home depot didnt have anything i was looking for. Bad service there. I also need panels like the vid.

yea im curious about how you are going to skin that tank stand with removable panels. da youtube vid doesnt exist and i'd like to copy your project.

I would skin it with 1/4" plywood. You can attach trim pieces to the outer edges that will hide the seams when teh panels are installed.

Lol. It was pretty easy. Just cut a small piece of the type of wood that you wanna join. Measure the center from both sides. Use a drill press to get your holes straight, drill each hole 1" in from each side. in the center where the two line intersect use a finish nail that goes all the way through the block. PLace the block where you want the holes and pound the finish nail through to hold it in place. Tape your drill bit to set the depth and drill your holes. pull the jig off and pound the nail back through. move on to the next set. And voila!! All of your holes are the same depth, distance apart, and both side line up!!
so that small block was a guide or reference to make sure all your drilling wouldn't be crooked?; it's not incorporated into the actual stand right?

did you countersink the nails and use wood fillers to make the finish so smooth and clean? how did you make the stand so nice? from the pic i cannot see the nails and im assuming thats how u did it, please tell me how you did it :cool-1:
