My eelpout spawned!!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Consensus $40 same as i pay for a florida gar at LFS.
I never find any eelpouts over 8"+ in warm areas, suggested they lost their heat tolerance at that size. I had a big group of eelpouts under 4-6" but eventually lost them to warm temperatures after they grew up a little. That was during middle of summer
I probably would have caught them at this size last summer but I was working in alaska. This is the smallest Ive seen them.

I would just toss them back to your pond. Not worth it to shipping them out to their doom unless they can provide a chiller for these pouts.

I'll mostly certain be up for them if you happen to get more brotha, I can confidently keep my native aquariums at well under 55 during the summer.

nope, cheaper way lol. I freeze gallon jugs of water and put them in the sump. That coupled with the fact the tank is directly under an ac vent and the water in the summer doesn't get above 55. When I had walleye in the tank I had to do this to keep them happy. I haven't done it lately because the fish in there can tolerate 65-70 degree water during the summer but they'd be fine if I started doing it again.

Walleyes didn't need cool temperatures.

Since when I worked at a walleye hatchery and home raised some walleyes. They will be fine in 70's and lot of the walleyes are thriving in warm water lakes
