It can be frustrating thats for sure...Personally I can't wait to see how mine shapes up in the next year compared to my RTC. Hopefully we can document how they do and have some new information to pass along.

I don't think you have to worry about this fish reaching six feet lol. Rarely do you hear about a RTC exceeding much over 3' in your average (or even slightly above average ) private hobbyists aquarium. In the wild they may approach 4.5' -5', but not likely in the home aquarium. As well the marble, I'm assuming you mean Leiarius longibarbis(?!), MAXES out AT 2.5'-3'. Soooo..... I think if you split the difference, you SHOULD end up with an approximately 3' fish given the appropriate size aquarium and care. However, Like necrocanis and Wolf 3101 said, it's probably gonna grow FAST, and it's full adult size IS all guess work right now. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the seller, I know them to be good and reputable as well, but hey, s*** happens and that's why these forums exist, to get a second opinion! That being said, I think you should raise said catfish to it's full potential and let us all know! lol.

Best of luck!!!

It just arrived I acclimated it to the water and its swimming around just fine...ITS Made buddies with my Lima Shovel Nose:grinno: ....Packaging was excellent!...:chillpill:

Its already 5 inches long! Over half the size of my Lima! :nilly:

I put it directly into the 125 where it encountered a problem...my 10" blackbelt cichlid...it was attempting to scope out the new roommate nipping around at his whiskers  I immidiatley chucked it into the 55 gallon (thats not exactly abuse if you ask me...its the only fish there)

Heres the first few pictures of the first minutes of the little guy being in the tank... :D enjoy

Oh ya 2 things,
1> What should I name it?
2> Him/Her???? (Just guess on this one):lipsseale

How do you like him/her???? Let me know...
This is the coolest fish ever....wont feed it him until tomorrow just to get 100% sure hes alright (ive heard the rumors of this thing upchucking):irked:

I beleve you got slightly miss led ,but you also got a great pet !
As for the a--hats you sholdent reply to enything they say their full of s*&t.
for thinking they have some say in who post what on this site .
you are doing the right thing in trying to educate your self and others.

no affence to the seller your just trying to make a living at this RIGHT!;)

Well you can't name him Houdini because that's already taken....LOL

Mine found a spot under one of the Hydro5 sponge filters and settled in for good. (all of our tanks have a large number of hiding places unfortunatly.)

The story behind his name....

I got the camera out determined to take the new guys picture but I couldn't find him. I took out all of the decorations....no fish... Lifted each one of the hydro5's and looked underneith...no fish. Checked all around the tank base for a corpse...no fish. I finally noticed that the little monster WAS under one of the hydro5's but when I would pick it up he would hang on to the bottom of it.

WOW, he really gave you a great one. Your's came in larger and healthier looking than mine and others that I have seen. Mine will eventually end up in my 1100 gal pond until I get my giant cat tank built. Might be a 3rd pond in the works before then. Like I've said before we won't really know how big you can expect this fish to get till someone's had one for a few years. Probably 3-5 years to see what you might be looking at. Catfish grow for their entire life, slow as it might be they do. Once they hit certain benchmarks they slow down. Not just their growth, but their eating habits, and movements as well. To know how big this cat could potentially get to, you would need to have many adult cats to get an average. This is impossible at present, but I believe that we here at MFK are doing a great job in documenting growth rates in home aquaria, and eventually should this site still be around in 10-20 years someone can look back over all the information and be more informed for it. We are all doing our part to help each other out. I have seen pics of this fish that appeared to be close to the 2' mark, so 3' is probably definitely a posibility.

I'd love to see a picture of a 2' mrtc. (I've decided that the name of the fish is now the Marbled Red Tail Catfish.)

Not too bad...I hope it catches on...its alot easier to type then RTC x Marble Catfish...Mine has actually eaten...he grabbed a hidding feeder i diddnt see...that tank really is too big for me...but im sure the fish love it....he seems right at home...i think he is tired from his trip for right now...so tomorrow il have some more picks in the correct lighting....is it me or does that pic of him look like he is like an angel???

Sounds like a great name to me... after all it COULD be a female...
