If you really want a esox sp. try grass pickerel they don't get very big like 10" max in an aquarium.

Most ponds and lakes with good cover will contain a good population, and especially right now the young ones are just coming out so taking a good sturdy dipnet or seine throught the reeds should ctch you a few of them.

A pickeral is a nasty little bugger also,, i'd have to drive an hour to get one .

and walk 5 minutes to catch a small mouth, well to try and catch one ;)
 
The largest Northern Pike i've caught was 15 pounds.
It attacked my buzz bait (surface lure) and distroyed it!

There are a couple places that sell the grass and redfin pickerel on a seasonal bases, this on has a good reputation and does not require that you buy in 100 fish lots. http://www.jonahsaquarium.com/fishlist.htm
