ALL fish are "ich prone". That's why you QT fish for 4+ weeks before doing anything with them, which I am assuming you didn't do?

Ich is most often brought on by the stress of being moved from one place to another.

I buy my tropicals from a LFS, and I bought some fish from Petco, and they are all wonderful and healthy, AFTER I QTed them.

Balloon mollies have a high mortality rate period. I have been trying to breed some, as the misses love them, but they suffer from "random death syndrome" more than any other fish I have seen.

also they frequently die right before or during the process of giving birth. Similar to english bulldogs, they are not designed for functionality, they are bred for looks. Thats the downside to being an incredibly deformed fish sadly. Not using a breeding net is a good idea for balloon bellies as you want the birth to be as stress free as possible.

Best of luck to you.

Also agree about the ich prone remark. Ich is a sign of other problems, be it stress, bad water parameters, other diseases, wrong temp or fluctuating temps, etc. All fish are "stress prone" which is the leading cause of ich.

none of my other mollys show signs of ich in the main tank neither my cichlids, so i may just got a bad batch of ballons ( and never gunna buy ballons again either ) i still have one female ballon left and hoping she mades it through the hospital tank! i love the colors and i like this peticurler molly! but my other mollys are 2 silver and 5 dalmation sailfins. one sailfin in perticuler is the main dominate one to. i have no males now ( yes i know females hold sperm for up to 6 months ) but im goin to use this hospital tank as soon as my female ballon passes on or becomes well enough for the main tank.

so how long should 4 lil baby mollys stay in the 2-way breeder before goin in the 2.5 gallon? when they enter the 2.5 they will be there tell there 1.5 inches long )
