lol. how can i sex my oscar?

Only way is to vent it, which requires taking it out of the water, flipping it over and looking at the breeding tube. But even if it was a male and they spawned the eggs wouldn't hatch.

Oscar can certainly hybridize, just not with anything you will find in a petstore. You and your facts:ROFL:

If I didnt know what I was talking about I would ask you to find a picture of an O hybrid, but its not possible. Astronotus cant hybridize outside their genus. Period. :screwy:

I know this. An Astronotus crossing with a different kind of Astronotus is still hybrid. So technically your original statement is false.

Should have worded this better.

Now your getting into something rather controversial. Some scientists claim Astronotus is all 1 species, Ocellatus, and all other forms are color morphs and isolated sub-species. Some will say the classification of specimens is into the two known species A. Oscellatus and A. Crassipinnis.

O's arent my thing so I dont want to dig any deeper, Was just curious how you came to that assumption, or is it just a generalize rationalization? Do you have a DNA analasis that suggests this? or what reference are you going off of?
