I say you got a very fair price; I'd put him up for between 30-40$ if I was looking to move this fish like you were looking to. If I could sit on him maybe 50$, but I doubt I'd sell him quickly unless he was fertile. Great color and flowerline but pretty weak kok for his size which is usually what hobbyist you look for first. If you sold this fish for 100$ you would have gotten a great deal, but would probably not have sold him to anybody but a new hybrid hobbyist. Here are some fish for sale now in the around 50-150$ range for comparison:

Everybody is correct in their opinions, but Indian context is something everyone overlooked! 36$ isn't such a bad deal if you consider the 4$ price paid by the OP...... Unless it's the case of serious hobbyists, nobody in India wants to buy a fish worth more than 4/5$...... And moreover when the OP wanted to sell quick, I think he got a pretty fair deal. Also ZZ's are not so cool in these parts of the world (and very very common too) as Kamfas, Thai Silks etc..... that is another consideration.
But nonetheless, a lovely specimen that is..... But I wouldn't have been interested if it was pegged at 50$...... I could have gotten myself a few ZZs in 4$ each, grown them and kept the best for myself.

Don't get me wrong..... I know guys in India hankering to buy Channa Barca for 400$ plus, but then again they are the serious hobbyists I was talking about!

I didn't think about that good point
