I got my achara catfish this morning. I bought it from discus origins and it arrive in perfect condition and had excellent packaging. He was measured at 6.2" long. Currently he is being acclimated into his 75 grow out. Plans for this fish are the following:
I'm going to grow him in my 75 until he is around 8-9 inches long then I will move him into my 180 gallon tank. Once he reaches 16" long, during the summers, I will keep him in a 1400 gallon outdoor pond. It gets to cold for it during the winter and fall but mid spring to early fall it should stay warm enough. Here are some pics of him

Nice fish. I don't think it will survive from spring to Autumn in Ohio though. Remember the amazon is not only warm but very constantly warm, whereas you may experience some cold nights even into June. I'd only keep it in a pond from early July to late August.

I've been keeping track of of temps last year when I had the pond up and starting from mid spring to mid September the water stayed around 70-80 degrees. If the temperatures does drop sooner ill just move him into my tank.

No problem man. I want to do the same thing with FL gars. Especially in spring night time can be problematic. You could always install an emergency heater with a thermostat for those 5-10 nights where it does get cold. :)
