My first Cichla...what type is it?

what ever he is he looks sweet but i can see why you say hybrid....Sweet find especially in CenCal

this whole cichla ID'ing is pretty confusing
he's showing red on all his lower fins, but then he has 3 clear spots rather than the "bars". also, i read online that monos have 3 short bars that dont pass the lateral line. is that an accurate way to ID monos?
wouldnt that mean that this fish cant be a mono? then again, i havent seen any ocell with 3 spots like mine. anywho, im still confused!

Confusion is the way of the SMALL CICHLA. Your best bet is to just give it some time. And this is advice of one who has all the formentioned sp. and i still wait on any of my Cichla under 8''. Just my .02c.
