My first DIY pvc overflow **PICS**

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nope, should I wait to install the check valve to glue it together? Or can I prime it and glue together, and then install the check valve like pharaoh described?

Yes, that will work. Does it have an airline check valve yet?

What would be the difference in the two designs that he had? Are you referring to the fact that the out loop on the bottom was lower that the inner? I do not see how that would stop it from siphoning. I have seen this type of setup work. The siphon should restart as soon as the water starts spilling into the 90s. The siphon is held by the inner and outer bottom loops.

Well from what I hear and see on here it should work fine. My question is approx. how much GPH will be going into my sump with this 1" diameter overflow? I want to know so I can find the correctly rated pump for my sump; so an equal amount of filtered water is being pumped back up into the tank at the same rate that the overflow is taking water in and down to the sump/ wet/dry..

No, you saw one LIKE it work. When the inside loop is above the tee, it will not hold its prime when it is shut down. That is why I said to make the bottom loops even. You don't run into problems when you don't try to reinvent the wheel.

Glue it together and then install the check valve. Use silicone rubber to install the check valve.

Expect around 600gph, but it depends on the height of the tank/length of the overflow. If you limit the pump selection to 300gph, you will have fewer problems in the future.

how does this type of overflow work as where it goes over the tank it is higher than the water level so it wont get over :confused::confused:
