That's a manual start and I could never trust something I needed to manually start to actually keep running under all conditions.
Just not worth it to me. I'd rather drill the tank then risk it later.

I can't say that you should buy it. They don't tell you what the name of the pump is (if it has one) and you don't get an option for replacement impellers. When the impeller needs to be replaced, it will cost you the full price of the next pump.

The Quiet One QP13 will pump more water with less electricity. The only draw back is that it costs four dollars more (it will be well worth it when you need an impeller). You will get the four dollars back eventually just by saving electricity. The pump curve online says that the QP13 will pump 400 gph (four turnovers) but the one in my book says it will pump 600 gph (six turnovers). Either way, the pump in your link will pump only about 2-2.5 turnovers, which is pretty light on what you really need.
Btw, if the math isn't simple enough, the Quiet One will pump twice as much water while using less electricity.

If I thought I knew exactly how it would work I wouldn't have asked for an explaination. Explainations are key when people who don't know ask questions. Tact is always useful.

Well Ive tinkered with it a bit more and have made some progress..

those checkvalves are great.. but do yourself a favor... get a second one and keep it handy... ive yet to suck air out of my overflow without getting the check valve wet.. and ive never had one work after it got wet (both the duck bill and the spring kind)
keep the one you have where it is and use it till it fails... but once it fails dont remove it.. keep it where it is and put the new checkvalve on the other end of the hose..
