I saw this little guy advertised as "unwanted" on kijiji. I went to pick him up last friday and what I saw was disturbing. He was in a 20g tank filled with brown filthy water which stank horribly. The tank didn't have a filter which might explain the unacceptable conditions. I saw dead fish carcasses floating around the tank which I'm assuming were tank mates at some point. One sort of looked like a silver dollar but it was so badly rotten it was hard to tell.

Anyways I got the little guy for free along with a baggy of pellets which was the only type of food he's eaten since he was little, according to the
owner.:screwy:

I got him home and into his new 90g tank. He was shy and hiding for the first 2 days but now he's out and about and seems to be happy to see me. I'm feeding him a wide range of food now, most of which he has yet to recognize as food. ;) I don't blame him. Imagine only eating crackers your whole life.:screwy:

Anyways enough blabble... here he is.

EDIT: Oh yeah he's about 6" long

congrats on the rescue! should look nice as it recovers!

Good to hear you got him out of those nasty conditions!....He looks exactly like mine, only mine is like 2 inches smaller.

Cool dude I did the same thing about 7 months ago (prob my favorite fish....my avatar). The previous owners didn't want him so they brought him to my lfs in a bag, he was to big about 6" for any of there tanks with small fish. Lucky for him I got him the next day (for free) still in the same bag.

I'm bookmarking this thread. I wanna follow up, so please update occassionally!! I really respect what you did there. Anyone who betters the life of another being definitely gets some good karma. How does it go, it's not how many fish you have, it's how happy they are!

Looks a little rough but hopefully gets back to healthy with his new owner. Good job.

Thanks.

Im not 100% sure yet but it almost looks like he has a minor case of Ick. You can see a few white spots on his fins. Not to worry though. I'll keep a close eye on him over the next few weeks.;)

good for u bro . im happy that oscar got a 2nd chance

i respect you for saving an oscar from such horrible conditions!!! good job and good luck.

good job. its great that he's actually out and about after only two days. oscars are widely known to sit in a corner and sulk, just like in your pictures, for days on end.

maybe this guy realizes just how lucky he is :)
