My first ghetto pond.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im going to drain the tank so the water just covers her then I'll either use a wet sheet or towel to grab her. Its only a few steps from the tank to the pond so there isnt much of a chance of her jumping out of my grip. Plus I'm used to restraining wriggly animals all day.

I'd use a tupperware container or a bucket to catch a pleco that size. Just corner it with the container and nudge it in with your hand or the handle of a net.

Here's a question I seen asked yet...

How are you going to put Sally into her new home? That's a big @$$ed fish and I doubt she'll wanna get picked up and out of the water!

The reason for the question, I have a 13" Pleco that has sharp barbs on his fins, I'm not looking forward to grabbing him and moving him to a tank I am setting up now (50 gal to a 75gallon) My big net I have isn't that big and when I used a freezer bag before he poked holes in the sides and I had 2 streams of water when I released him from the transportation bag!

Way cool set BTW, looking to set up a similar filter in an outdoor pond, but in Washington state, it does get below freezing every winter, so no RTC's or Aro's for outside...An Arowana in pond out back might take care of the racoon problem I have, wouldn't that be a site, racoon goes fishing and the fish pulls it into the water and eats it! MUWAHAHA!! (Dr Evil laugh)
you could use a sheet of plastic chicken wire with two wooden dowels warped around the ends. does that make sense?? there's a specific word for it but im not sure what its called.

Excellent thread to read, I read all 11 pages.

That pond is not as ghetto as you think, I think it's a pretty cool indoor pond and excellent filter. I was happy to read you raised the filter above the water level letting water trickle in creating more oxygen. I'm assuming you'll likely have some sort of aerator in there too. Again, excellent work and like everyone else here- I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE SALLY IN THE POND! But, best to get it cycled perfectly first.

i was thinking you could have maybe used a water bed heater for the pond maybe, a water bed pond would be cool too but wouldnt be that deep.

Thank you for the kind words. I am going to have some other form of water movement, theres a tiny power head in there at the moment and im just debating on whether to get a larger powerhead or a big airpump.
Gotta consider the factors of; noise, power consumption and whether sally will break it. Haha. She has just smashed the strainer on the bottom of her heater so I gotta be careful with any equipment going into her tank.
