Well SP indochina and Rutilus are hard to identify from each other till they're a little larger in size. The only real way to distinguish the SP indochina from rutilus is probably the depth of the body and the freckled like spots on its body

They are tricky, I'll give you that. You guys are doing a great job with them though.

I went into a bit more detail in the guide, but other than body shape and coloration, the main thing to look for between those two closely related fish b is the shape of the head and the location of the eyes. A sp. Indochina would have a larger head with a steeper angle. The eyes seem to be slightly farther up and back on the head, though I don't have proportions yet.

For the most part, color can be telling. For rutilus, the anterior portion of the body is somewhat darker than the area between the stripes, it's closer in color the the in between. In sp. Indochina, the head is lighter color, closer in shade to the area in between the dark stripes.

Then of course you have the yellow or orange fins of rutilus and the dalmatian spots of sp. Indochina that can make it easier.

Imo, these are the two trickiest of this group to tell apart.

Bahaha I still think it is rutilus but it's just too hard to tell right now since he just got it. Maybe in a few weeks when it's completely settled we'll be able to decide from its coloration but this definitely is a tricky one haha.

One pic makes me want to say rutilus and then the other makes me want to say sp. Indochina. I don't rewlly like making species diagnosis on my phone anyway because then pics are so small.

I'll reserve final judgement until it's settled in.
