You will find (especially in a nano) that it will have to be fish or shrimp. I keep a few species of dwarf shrimp and the only fish that ever worked is an otocinclus cat. And I really dont trust them all the way yet.

I've seen quite a few nanos with both shrimp and fish. I think CPDs would be okay since they only get .75-1" as adults. And with all the HC and hiding spaces in this tank, baby shrimp should be fine. But, we'll see what route I end up taking. I have 6 CPDs sitting in one of my tanks already, though.

sweeeet! nice to see more folks coming to the planted side :) hope those pricey ADA co2 refills dont put a hole in your wallet!

Thanks J. That's my only concern...those damn refills are pricey. I think I might go with a paintball style regulator for the sake of cheap refills. Care to recommend a reasonably priced reg?

I've always wanted a shrimp tank. Gave it a shot in a 29 gal and it worked alright. Tank mates were cardinal tetras and lemon tetras.

Then I tried it again when I moved this time in a 55 gal with guppies, cardinals, lemon and black phantoms, some zebra danios and dwarf gouramis. This time no luck. The 45 CRS were gone with in two months.

I'll have to check up on this thread and see if your fish/shrimp combo works cause I'm wantin to try it again

I've kept RCS with cardinals in the past with pretty good results. I'm sure the cardinals snacked on a few RCS, but with their voracious breeding, I hardly noticed. CRS are a lot more expensive, so I feel I'll notice anything. If I decide to add fish, it will be a good while after the CRS arrive. I want to give them a good amount of time to establish a solid colony first.

ADA disposables, where do you find refills for those?

ADG shop...online.

lookin good, glad to see your hc is spreading well. I decided to go the dwarf hairgrass route, and it still wont spread.

I'm going to use some dwarf HG in this scape but decided against giving it a dry start. From what I've read, it isn't a great plant to start dry.

looks awesome mike. il throw some crs your way once my colony gets back up to speed :irked:

HAHA thanks Adam. I'm going to fill the tank on Monday or Tuesday, so I'll probably pick up some CRS of my own later next week. We could swap shrimp to strengthen our respective gene pools.

Do it! I got tired of sitting on the sidelines, lusting over awesome nanos I saw on the net. The result is what you see :naughty:

i would say skip out on the paintball regs also. it's always much more cost effecient to go with a standard co2 regulator. a 5lb tank will last a very long time on your tank. if you dont want to spend a lot, the Milwaukee regulator is a good choice. you can get them for $80-90 on ebay complete with solenoid, needle valve, bubble counter and tubing. what would your budget be for a regulator?

also, those ADA kits dont come with a solenoid right? do you have to manually turn the co2 on and off? with a solenoid, you just set it on a timer and forget it!

I'm looking to spend $100 max on a co2 setup.
hmmm would be tight. if you could find a used regulator it you could save a little money. basically it would cost $80-90 for the regulator and $30-50 for a used 5lb bottle locally. i'm assuming you already have the glass diffusor so this isnt included...
