Welcome! and.. rofl .. yeah what a welcome you've gotten so far! wolf fish are awesome great cool! and def a predator. Sun cats are nice.. I love my guy. But he's pretty reclusive. Syno cats ime tend to be more outgoing. But they are african lake fish and need a high PH o.O.. not sure what perameters the wolf requires. Jaguar cats are also along the size lines of a suncat. though tbh you don't "need" a catfish to go w/ your wolf. You can keep the tank barebottomed and simply syphon out the extra bits from feeding when you do your water changes. adding more fish to the tank will increase the bio-load period. and catfish are dirty fish even if they help keep extra food off the bottom they create more poop.

what problem do you want? lol.. Just gonna throw that option out to you too.

if you want simple and clean cut, barebottom. Just your wolf w/ a peice of PVC or something to hide in.

planted, prolly suggest raphael cats then.

I've never kept a wolf, just wanna make that clear. I've seen most wolfs kept in species only tanks, by themselves. So I'm gonna assume you want it to grow up with whatever else you decide to keep with it if you do.

GL! post pics! and Welcome!

Man, there is a definite difference in expertise here haha. I was looking at Leopards I was just thinking that one fish in a tank is gonna be kinda bland, I am not 100% on anything but the Wolf atm. I am still craigslist shopping for a tank ;)

The wolf you are looking at (Erythrinus erythrinus) prefer acidic waters, pH of 5.6-7.8. Synodontis general don't like those water parameters. I'd plant the tank with some sword plants, Cabomba, and other South American plants. Raphaels or other similar sized armoured cats will do well with the wolf.

Nice choice of species, btw. I've never owned one, but I am a big fan of them.

I use to keep mine with similar sized polypterus and they got along relatively well. Had it eating pellets off the bottom too...

The only issue with that is I have heard that there are some discrepancies in opinion on the polypterpus and I am looking for a cleaning buddy for my wolf, you know to clean his turds and be his maid ;)
