congrats mate. I'm still trying/endevoring to get my sodding ray tank set up. Having forked out for a structural engineer and getting certified i am now pissed off as i have run out of bloody substrate :irked: Who'd of thought 25kg of substrate wasnt enough for 25sq feet (2 tanks but one is much smaller than this)..... I have more filtration than a person could shake a stick at, i have rediculous volumes of extra equipment but no ruddy substrate! And i can't have a bare bottom tank- it just wouldn't be proper.

Out of interest; if your tank upstairs?

Wow how big is your setup gonna be!?!? Sounds like a zoo type tank!

Ps. I live in a bungalow so no upstairs. I've always wanted an upstairs but since I've started keeping fish I'm now appreciating a one level house . Cos I know if I had an upstairs there'd be tanks up there, it's bad enough moving tanks on one level, upstairs even more drama lol

Ah I didn't even know they were called claspers! Do they come out when there ready to mate or some just have naturally big ones (like our balls?)

How hard are these guys to breed? What size do they need to be at etc?

it sounds worse than it is. I have a planted tank for my Mala and my ray tank which is the same size as yours. All in my upstairs bedroom. Allow me to speak for all when i say 'uh OH!'. I want an inch of substrate as a bare minimum with a minor planted margin. I have reticulata reserved as a LFS but it's taking too long to get the tank running so it's frustrating.

I've also got to remove the other 2 tanks before i fill the monster...

Good luck man! I look forward to seeing the tank when its operational.

congrats on the ray!

u know payara go great w rays:naughty:

Trev long time no speak! Ah I still dream of owning a Payara someday!
Before I didn't have a big enough tank and now that I do have a big enough tank, it came with the ray!

My friend has some Tatauaia (red tails) for sale, they look amazing but I don't think the ray would last too long with those around

HAAHAHAHA@!(!!!!!! wowie that is signature worthy.

Anyways does that rays stinger always 'hang a little to the left' like that? Tail seems a bit snubbed, too.. wondering if the tank size has anything to do with it.. how long that ray been in captivity?

I feel like I've finally lost my MFK virginity, Gr8KarmaSF posted on my thread and one of my silly comments have been added to a sig, all within 24 hours, too much for me hahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa:nilly::nilly::nilly:

Ps. They ray has been in captivity for at least 18 months that I know of, possibly longer. He's always been kept in big tanks since he's been imported. I think any damage was during shipping. He basically came free with the tank i bought so I can't complain at all. :naughty:

You have it backwards. The rays kill the Payara. I just lost a 6 inch Armatus to a ray.... Have had Tats beheaded before. Rays aren't as cute as they look..... If you are going to try mixxing Payara with rays make sure the Payara is big enough that it can NOT be trapped under the ray.
