My first sump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I remember he mentioned that the sump might be located in a nearby closet or something like that. That would be best of it won't fit under the stand because draining,
That was what we are going to do.
Good memory.

If you're only drilling one hole for a single drain, then I think you should drill a 1.5 inch. but...maybe you should drill 2-4 drains, herbie style overflow. Or, if you really want 1 inch drains, then drill more than just one.

You will have to size the overflow that you need. Then, I recommend that you install two overflows that are both capable of handling full flow from the pump. This way if one of them gets clogged for whatever reason you will have a backup.

I am using the the H2Overflow from Custom Aquariums. I will be using three of them because my flow is going to be greater and they are rate at 1,200gph, each. They are a little pricey but I am keeping fire eels and don't want them to ever find their way into the overflow.

I was looking at your chosen pump but I can't find a flow curve for it. It looks like a good pump, and should be for the price of it, and if it has little head loss then it should work out well. However, without a flow curve I cannot tell if it will create enough flow on its own. I will be using two 1,290gph pumps on my 220 because after I account for head loss they are both going to be pumping around 800gph and I am aiming for 1,500gph total. Just check I to the pump to make sure it's adequate.

I can't wait to see what you come up with for your sump. Make sure to post pictures.
