My First SW tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yea, I bought a six-line wrasse the other day, and he is probably less than an inch.

My 75g reef with 3x koralia 4's is nice for the corals, but he has only made one short appearance since I put him in.

I mainly feed NLS and algae sheets for the tang (some homemade, some not) but I will be feeding mysis the next couple days to encourage him to come out and eat as opposed to the usual schedule where I feed selecon enriched mysis 2x a week.

Just a little bit of an up-date today. I added a small nano power head in the live rock compartment of my sump. I was a little concerned about the flow only going in one direction. The power really seams to be working well. I’m also starting to notice some very small spots of coralline on the live rock coming back to life. In these spots are getting more and more purple-ish in color and seams to be growing a bit. There’s about enough to cover a match book cover right now, but it’s a positive sign. I’m going to get a test kit for calcium and alkalinity and starting testing / dosing this weekend. As I’m using really good quality salt, I am hoping I won’t have to dose a lot.

I think I’m going to add a cleaner shrimp or two this weekend as well. More pics to follow this weekend

Coraline is a good sign. Means magnesium and calcium are at proper levels, and phosphates are low or undetectable.

I have a scarlet cleaner shrimp and I love him/her/it to death. One of the more amusing inhabitants of my tank, but him/her/it can be a butt head sometimes.

If youre still having problems feeding the clowns, try some Rod's Food. Its a bit pricey but I have never seen a fish not go crazy for it. My clowns go nuts and try and rip it out of my fingers.

Your tank and build are super nice though. I will be looking forward to updates and how it ends up looking. What else are you planning on stocking it with? I love the clowns by the way.

Thanks guys

The clowns are doing great. They are now eating like little pigs.

I'm not to sure about the rest of the fish I will add yet. I'm thinking about a hippo or powerblue tang once the tank is more established and maybe some type of cardinal. Still looking into it. I could change my mind about the fish. I will be adding some snails and a emerald crab once I start getting some algae.

Likely won't be adding a lot (if anything) unitil mid January. Our SW LFS will not be ordering in any livestock until the second week of January. We live in a small city 350 miles north of Montanna and flights here are limited. During the holidays its common for air freight to get bumped in place of passenger baggage.

If I get the shrimp, I'll post some pics this weekend

Cheers

Please QT any tangs you might get. I woke up this morning to find everyone buy my inverts and blenny with ich. I have a sneaking suspicion that it came from the Yellow tang that I added a week ago.

So now I am stuck with doing a massive wc and dropping my salinity to 1.18 or less.

Water change yes...salinity that low no.

Call me heathd...we will work this out.

The blennies can be real sensitive to ich as well...but we can get through this.

Back to the main point, things are looking good cliff...lets just wait a year now. :D

www.aquatraders.com

I have used two different fixtures from this website, both PC...I know of two other guys running their T5 and another running their PC. I also know two people reefing with their metal halides. No complaints so far. Worst part is that they only give 30 days guarantee on their products.

wow. those prices on that site are insane. thanks for suggesting it!
