My first tank........

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The last 4 fish you posted pictures of wouldnt be suited for this tank with mbuna and frontosas. You'll be glad you went with fronts and mbuna as the first fish. Most people start out with 2" guppies and tetras. You went straight to the top! Gratz.

african chiclids variety

your tank is absolutely a perfect set up for africans. i saw the pics you posted and there are a few compatibility problems. if you go with fronts, they are slow and just sortof float around (though get spooked and are fast and clumsy). IMO they wont mix with the 3rd (i believe -blue and black striped fish) pic of the demansoni's. demasonis are aggressive and from lake malawi-i keep a group of them (they do best with one alpha male and a group of females that way he wont beat just one up)in my 180. i would think they may beat up the slow fronts.
demasonis are best kept with more aggressive fish like kenyis, and red zebras, yellow labs (not agressive, but can hide well lol), crabros, and a few haps like venustus and red empress. i have pics you can see of my mixed mbuna tank.

if you want to go mbuna style-there is alot of variety. the last 4 pics i dont recognize but im guessing they are lake tanganyika fish-and ive never mixed them with malawi cichlids.

i really love the look of the comps! i would research them, and see what you can put with them-i believe comps come in a few different colors too. i would say your tank is big enough for them and another species..

btw im just giving my 2 cents, i know alot of ppl here have some really huge tanks, and have great success mixing species from different african lakes, so it CAN be done, as long as you take ph level, diet, aggression, breeding habits into account..
cant wait to see what you choose!
