My first Texas Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I hate to say it but, I just looked at the thread for the first time and i think you don't have a problem with health but rather a problem of type. I think you might have a red texas that is just starting to peel. When I looked at the first pick I could see the scales where the fish was yellowish in coloration. So if the scales are intact then the peeling "they" were refering to is most likely the peeling of the color on the fish. If it continues to get more yellowish then thats most likely the case.

red texas, red devils, midas and any other fish that peel dont literally peel their scales like this they just change color, this fish is actually missing scales so that is definitely not the case, as for melafix it is still an all natural remedy and you can definitely try it but i think at this point since he has been in this condition for so long at the store and with you then you need to try a stronger medication for external fungal infections. GOOD LUCK

I would add some melafix for sure along with the salt. Make sure the water is very clean. Keep an eye on it for fungus. If he starts to get fungus you will have to switch to something stronger.

He is a beautiful fish! Lets hope he heals up quickly!

This fish is peeling, this is most likely a Red Texas and is beginning to fade, there isn't anything physically wrong with it.....You can tell when you look at the pictures, by the gill plates and right above the flapper that there is orange cracks already showing through, you can also tell by the tips of the lower dorsal fin which also is beginning to fade to a lighter color. And the scales on the faded part is still there, they are just hard to see since they are now yellowish/white color.....

tHE FISh is peeling off the dark pigments and going to be that lighter color showing out right there. It's not from fighting or damage.

Just like how a gray midas turn into a colored midas..

trust me on this and no more confusions.

i have one of these kind and I know this type of fish. Your fish will become a golden fish.. It's gonna be a pretty fish real soon for you.. you were not lied to by the seller.

Nice..

Nice..

about how long was the process it took your fishes?

when a midas peels it looks nothing like this!!! i still dont think this looks like color peeling, but then again i have never had a red texas before because i dont keep hybrids so they might peel differently than other fish... either way the store still lied to you because they sold it as a pure fish and not as a hybrid red texas, when you look closely at the fish is it missing scales or are they still there and just colored white? from the pics it looks as if the scales are actually gone and its his skin showing. when a midas or red devil peels it actually gets darker and gets black on it which then fades away to reveal the different color, nothing like what this fish is going through

awwww so whats happening? im so confuse

So his actually a red Tex and his losing his colour? turning from blue to red?

Your fish is fading/peeling..........here is an example of my Flowerhorn peeling, it took about 2 months to get to the last picture, but each fish is different, some will peel fast, some will peel slow, it depends on the fish...
