I'd say screw the pay check and have them give you your four weeks in store credit. Boo ya!!

Thats pretty cool though that you were able to get a job at a LFS. All of the ones around here are too cheap to hire anyone. I'm about ready to go volunteer to work in them cuz they really need to turn their stores around. Its pathetic what those fish have to live through.

Don't burn your bridges though man. Just walking out on the job might be satisfying, but it doesn't 'speak' very good of you. Giving them too weeks notice, stating your reasons for doing so, and being firm about it will not only gain you respect, but it will also make it easier for you to get another job later somewhere else. Build good ethics...the rest is a snap. Plus you might actually snap some sense into them and they might pay you.

Good advice.

i have always done that, even my last job i worked for 9 months, but i had to quit because of an unplanned move to west virgina, or else i would still be there. but i didnt even bother on this one, because i knew once i would give my two weeks they would just not schedule me. and it wasnt really to satisfying walking out, i mean there wasnt no one there to look after the fish, i did at least feed them and clean and scrub everything before i left, so i guess thats a plus.

Oh that's right. You have to "fund" your first paycheck first. But yeah, if they refuse to pay you, OSHA is definitely the way to go. Working at a LFS is great but only if you get your efforts reciprocated/paid according to your agreement. You're not a volunteer but an employee.

Kudos to you walking out and like Peanut said, if they got great fish, you can always ask for store credit instead of money... that is if you can afford to have it that way. And the two weeks notice too.

What would suck is if during the two weeks notice and you still don't get your pay for the first two weeks that you have worked.

state law here is 15 minute break after four hours of work. the reason i stayed after i didnt get paid the first two weeks was this.

with that system you work our two weeks, and you dont get paid for those two weeks intill two weeks from then if you know what i mean. so i knew i wouldnt get a paycheck intill the second pay day. wich would be for weeks.

I understand, why you walked out. But you owe it to yourself to confront them head on and you should have done that and quit in the process. They need to get told off quite honestly, and if everyone only walks out they will continue to do it to others because you let them off easy. If everyone always told them off and reported them to the better business buero they would think twice before doing it again.

Call the National Labor Relations Board. If what you say is true they will do an investigation. They are in alot of trouble if they did not give you your brakes. They could even close the whole place down.

im gonna call them today a lil bit later and tell them whats on my mind, and if they still dont want to pay me im going to have a nice new 95 gallon wave tank.
