My Fish Piss Me OFF!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry for the delayed response. Before bashing me take note that I was just trying different ideas to fix aggression, along with not a ton of experience. My tank is only 85 gallons (dimension= 72"x15"x18"). I did a ton of research before getting the arowana and knew that my tank is nowhere near ideal, however ive seen them in small tanks, and with the same species cihlids as I have, plus I planned on upgrading when it became necessary. As for the abundance of cichlids, I was attempting to curb aggression by adding more fish since it was suggested be many people, plus I was taking care of my friends fish while his dad battles lung cancer. They all said it was a huge risk and it may not work. It obviously didn't. Like I said before I am nowhere near as experienced as many of you and there is really one way to get experience and that is to actually try stuff out. Unfortunately for me it put me out a considerable amount of money and ended the lives of some super cool fish.. I have learned from these trials and error and I am done buying more fish until my current stock is gone . I am down to The JD, RD, and the Pleco. My friend will soon be taking back his green terror and his small JD since his dad passed last night. Soon I will only have my 2 larger cichlids and the pleco. I want to grow them out as big as possible (I know I will need to upgrade my tank). Thanks for all the input! It really helps a lot since I am trying to learn as much as possible about the hobby.

I hear ya. I'm always running a less than ideal "grow out" or "holding tank" of some kind. For tanks like this, I throw tons of cover and or sight breaks. Lots of wood or PVC can help .

I have a 120 holding about 12 cichlids ranging from 12" to 6" and a pile of PVC gave everyone an area to call their own. I've also run these style tanks with zero cover and had them work to some extent. The fish never fought, but they also never stopped swimming either.

Pretty sure the arrow will outgrow that tank fast. I'm not an arrow guy, so I don't know how fast but I know I can't house one for life in my 8' tank. Hopefully someone with an arrow can help out.

Well, you get all kinds on a forum and some that mean well and are trying to help wouldn't exactly make it as counselors or teachers. One thing I can assure you, everyone in the hobby was a rookie at some point, everyone goes through a learning curve, and everyone makes their share of mistakes along the way. It's just that sometimes they bite you and sometimes you get away with them. :duh:

Or other things are simply in the sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't category.
