My Fishroom!!!! Work in Progress!!!

Wait, more on the charcoal. That's a new one to me. You're sure that the stuff will take all the chloramine, chlorine and metals out of your tap water for many years? How do you test it to be sure it's still working? Doing the math, this would be cheaper than the amount of Prime I use. If I can trust it.

I have done the math!!! and it works, because of how big I made it...both tubes are filled with charcoal and my fish absolutely love it!! and so do my fry!!! I got the design from a local friend and long time fish keeper, and he did the Water tests and all levels are perfect for my FH, RT and fry!!!

nice room. it's so nice to have all your tanks in one place

Any way you could post what materials are needed as well as a picture of the charcoal unit for those of us interested in building our own? :D

p.s. after I learn how to make my own you should get a patent on that thing haha

I would setup one large filtration unit for all the tanks. Run a line to the water heater or home heater swap to copper there wrap it around the water heater or duct work then run a continues pump to it. Any time the source has heat it will draw from that which is usually wasted into the room anyway and heat the tank. I think you may see a minimal impact from the heat absorption, but when you are looking at that many tanks it has to be cheaper than a ton of tank heaters. If you are worried about a outbreak, setup a small tank for new fish to stay in for a few weeks upon arrival that is off the filtration grid. I think I am going to start working on mine now! I was also thinking of doing this for a tank chiller. You can get a small fridge used for $30 cut into it run a coil of copper tubing with water pump through it to chill the water. You will have to play with it to get temp right, but when you do this is by far a cheaper route than a tank chiller. When you go 500 gallon plus it gets hard and expensive .
