my flowerhorn and jaguar cichlids mated! HELP

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lol, gotta stop pulling stuff from your arse. Try putting some valid points next time. Id point out all your errors but its getting tiring.

Check this link out, designed for reptiles and such but works perfectly in the case for captive fish:

Thats how I felt when I read what he wrote. LOL

Lots of species of fish naturally aspired, why the need to mix up fish and sell them? Thats a horrible thing!. Its exactly for the reason that someone else said previously, it might look like a jag, a ugly nasty jag, and will get in the hands of some one who thinks its a jag and then breed it with another jag and just completly dilute the strain, very irresponsible of you to sell them. You kids dont get it.

With that attitude, most of the fish in this hobby would be deemed as "horrible". As long as they are being sold for what they are, it's the responsibility of the person that buys them to know what they're getting themselves into and know well enough not to pass on a hybrid off as a pure species.

Pfft, Purists.

@OP: Go ahead and sell them if you please. Just be courteous and sell them as Jag X ZZ Fader.

wildthingy......i say keep them and sell them aswell. a old friend of mines had this happen to him with a male red dragon zz flowerhorn and a female jaguar and the fry came out amazing. they had the body of there mother but the lovely color of the rd zz. i hope i can get a few from you?

also,i love hybrids just the same as any other sa/ca cichlids....in fact i own a red texas golden flowerhorn hybrid and i love him/her.....and as we speak...i have a project going on now with my green texas and my female red devil.

I'm ok with some hybrids but I'm a big fh hater in a way because of their affect on the trimac in the hobby. I currently have 8 dovii x freddy I got from a friend. I would say just give them away and make sure they stay outta the local fish stores....

I have read through this thread & disagree with a lot of members blaming the OP.
It's perfectly fine if the OP wants to keep a few of these hybrids.
Another point about the hybrid babies JagxKamfa ZZ/fader being donated/sold to lfs.
To defend the OP -It's not in the OP's hands what the lfs does with these babies once the lfs has them.
If the lfs is reputable they will (NOT) except them & if they do except them & market them as something that they are (NOT) it's not the OP's fault. The OP clearly described this hybrid as what it is & was (EXCEPTED) by some, but looked bad by others.
As a breeder I understand the importance in (DESTROYING) fry that can cause a problem in diluting any strain of fish. The OP also wasn't the one offering to sell these hybrids. It was members reading this thread promoting the movement of these babies.
IMO the OP can keep a few & grow them out to see the outcome, but I disagree in selling any of them to anyone. You just never know where they can end up.

Congrats to the OP on the spawn

Then your a low quality fh hater ;)
Any good quality one would easily be able to be distinguished even by a 'noob'

I'll just report that its in the wrong forum, usually fixes the problem

Of course the OP can do whatever he'd like with them. Everything offered here is just an opinion, one way or another. There's no one that can forbid him to destroy the fry, or keep them all to himself. Just know that for every person who thinks it's a great idea to grow them out and market them, someone else will disagree. Ah, the beauty of a discussion forum. ;)

Personally, I wouldn't sell fish if they were hybrids. Take MFK's Central/South American board as a perfect example. How many ID threads do we see each week where people pick up some unknown fish at an LFS and everyone jumps in and says, "Hybrid!" Are there really so many hybrids floating around that each unlabeled LFS purchase is automatically suspected to be one?

But here's a personal example: I've bred and sold a few different species of SA cichlids here on MFK. Let's say for each spawn, I end up selling fish to ten people online. What are the chances those ten people are going to hold onto those fish forever? I've personally bought back fish that I've sold after seeing them re-listed for sale here. I have also seen fry that I sold locally turn up later in various shops around the area, meaning someone kept it for a few months and then dumped it at the LFS.

So even if you don't intentionally sell hybrids to an LFS, they could still find their way there. Then they get dumped in some "assorted cichlid" tank, and before you know it there's a thread here where someone's purchased them and is asking for an ID. And everyone jumps on board and says, "Hybrid!" The cycle repeats itself.

Again, I'm not telling OP what he should or shouldn't do, just why I personally don't do it.
