Nice pick-up, that sounds like a heck of a deal!
it sounds like you got a good deal too, except that theres a turtle messing it up-
until I get the other things that I need for chets camera, I took some shots with my phone-
the first is day one, fresh off the truck
3 arowanas and 2 paroons stretching out nicely-
the canopy had two 4' Home Depot shop lights that sat end to end and had a different color bulb in each socket, between that and the lights were partially blocked out by running directly over the overflow, it was dim and not attractively lit- so first, I painted the underside white to act as a reflector, then I dismantled the lamps, added wire to spread the bulbs apart, matched the rear bulbs, so they were the same color, then did the same with the front set of bulbs- and finally, for the canopy, I had 2 sets of dual T5 fixtures, these I mounted on the canopy doors- its a much nicer color and a much brighter tank due to the changes
I hate the sand and will be removing it in the very near future- Im going either my usual bare bottom or this time I might try and put tiles down-
the center overflow really helps with many of the disputes- arowanas must have ADD or something, because as soon as one aro slips behind the overflow the other immediately forgets what he was chasing
heres a shot of the 300g with the 125g sump I got from chester- I gave him the 55g sump that the setup came with and he gave me a beat but watertight 125g, which obviously more than doubled my sump size- which is a good thing, except for servicing the sump its so big and tight- just adding bioballs was a nightmare- so now the stand is notched sloppily until I groom all the holes uniformly
for the filteration- the water dropped into the middle of the sump, which was unacceptable- so we plumbed it to a side- I am still trying to find some more media, I want this thing
loaded
the water goes the full length of the sump tank, through all the media before being returned to the tank, through the big rio and mag18
its tough to see in this picture but the guy gave me a 25w UV that I need to get the bulb for- and one of my friends that I met through MFK, Marlon, gave me a red sea canister filter, I plan on hooking both of them up in the return lines to the tank (the canister is on the basket and the UV is above that)
