Sorry to hear of your accident. You should for sure should start a project. Its therapy.. July 22nd I suffered a neck injury (VAD) and the disection clotted, resulting in two strokes. Relearn damn near everything you know and you would be suprised how much this hobby can help you recover. If you have dogs, training them can also be a major help occupying time and doing something of benifit. ;) Drop me a pm anytime, I'll help with whatever I can.

Wow, hope things continue to improve for you. Im a junior in college and luckily it happened towards the end of the semester, so ill have some time off for the holidays anyway. And as far as dogs go I have a dalmatian and Im fostering an irish wolfhound / lab mix, but I am a dog trainer to put myself through school, funny enough, training them is what I am taking a break from :)

but yes if it weren't for my hobbies and a great group of family and friends id be going crazy :nilly:

but on a brighter note. Im starting the refugium today! :D:D:D

Awesome setup and amazing job on all the tanks Justin.....:headbang2
I just finished reading your build thread, simply inspiring!!!

Very nice set ups...All the tanks ended up looking fantastic.

So is it Orangeheads or Redheads? are there two different specie? trying to get my edumacation on with these Geophagus...lol.. I keep calling mine Redheads because, well it looks more Red than Orange?

Also, you've kept several specie of Geo's in a tank, no? ... if so has any tried to cross breed on you? or have your tanks always been specific Geo specie tank?

Thanks Joey! The correct term is "orange head" the "red head" label is an importer mis-label. When it comes to orange heads, there is much debate on the number of sp variants as well as the difference between Geophagus sp. 'Tapajos' vs Geophagus araguaia. The red head label (IMO) is similar to the Geophagus surinamensis label for g. abalios, altifrons, brachybranchus etc..

As far as mixing them, yeah when I first started learning about geos I wanted 2 of everything lol.. Keeping large groups of a single species is far more rewarding (I do mix with other species, just not other eartheaters if possible). The behavior is completely different and the breeding behavior/courting is non-stop. They are a social cichlid and need a social structure just as much as they need sand. Keeping them outside of a group setting leads to odd dominance/aggression issues.
