My GATF/TATF Growout Shoal Thread

 • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The first group of Tigers that worked that I could remember was Tigerfangs. The group that turned out to have the first confirmed GATF. I thought I remember his Gatf being an instigator as well. Thought I remember it working ok though with the 5/6 Vatf (which back then were the "only" Tigers) once the Goliath was moved. 600 gallon plywood tank. Could be off on a few details though, that was a long time ago..... Wonder if they were all really VATF???

I'd think 2' to be a little on the low side..... How big would we expect a Dorado to get in captivity? I thought I remember Mike (H20) having a 30"er.

How do you guys think Masheer/Tor would work as dithers?

Hmmm, my GATF is bigger than the 4 VATFs but he's definitely not dominant but he doesn't get beat up either. The VATFs mostly beat on each other. Every once in awhile the GATF would get a little nip but that's it. My fish can get nasty sometimes. Some of them bad enough to take out an eye. It will be interesting to see if and when they stop beating each other up.

As far as tank size I'm pretty much maxed out. I can't go any bigger than my 7X5X3 right now.

I'm not sure about the Dorado DB, I was expecting 2 foot maybe a little more much like the Armatus, but 3 foot would be awesome, but from my research fish never reach their max size in aquaria so 30 I'd say is on the high end of a good approximation ... I'd say ATF's would be happier in a bigger tank than Dorado simply because the Dorado, from what I've experienced, is a much calmer, smoother swimmer whereas the ATF's are more burst swimmers and freak out much easier, thus running a higher chance of injury in a more cramped tank

I'm desperately wanting to get a young putitora to try with Max. I love mahseers and I hope it would work.

I don't know how big a dorado could get in captivity for sure, but the world record is GATF sized, its 85 pounds! I'd say given perfect water and a big enough tank a 3' fish is definitely possible. I suspect that it would take a LONG time, however.

I also would think masheers would be a good tankmate, although I dont know much about them to be honest

Tor would all depend on the atf. My fatf beat the snot out of my tarpon. They still fought amongst themselves as well. Tor look a lot like a food source so I think it would have to be a much larger tor for it to work.

Just wanted to do a quick update. I've decided its time to move my pack from the 125 into a 180. I also went out and got sand and black construction paper to black out the tank to see if it'll bring out the color of my fish.

I use black construction paper too on my tanks. I just cant bring myself to paint the background on. Thinking ahead if i ever need to sell the tank lol.

The 180 is gonna have to wait. I decided to add two pairs of adult hystix stingrays into it. I also reintroduced my vittatus to the pack and everything is going great so far. Everyone is about 6" now. I havent noticed any violence from the vittatus like i used to.
