I know huh, I thought that was kinda cool. Definitely going to try and keep up on the weekly shots. After this first month of growth I'm optimistic that I'll be able to move him in with my Nile Perch within a year...barring any unfortunate incidents involving him crashing the top or glass the way some others have had happen with theirs...lets just say I have my fingers crossed and I tip toe through that room :D

Nothing really, just feed him how ever much he will eat 6 times a week. He gets a pretty varied diet including Hikari food sticks, carnivore pellets, shrimp pellets, freezedried krill and chunks of MP. 30% water change a week. No aggro tankmates. Lowlight tank with a 100% cover of duckweed.

He mostly put on weight the first 2 weeks. Once he filled out he started to grow in length the next 2 weeks. If you compare the fishes caudal fin to each consecutive pic in week 2, 3 and 4 you'll see that the tail actually looks smaller or thinner because of the way I cropped the pic. Obviously the tail should appear larger each week, if I had cropped it so the tail appears longer and thicker in each pic the body would look proportionatly larger each week then it does now.

It's not really meant to be exact though, just thought it would be cool to show some relative growth pics to get an idea of the changes in the fish.

fyi- growth in the first month was a very conservative 1"...in all honesty was probably over an 1 1/2" though

need more weekly photo...what a fish...mine didnt grow so fast...

Seems to be growing pretty good so far

Just had a few minutes this weekend for pics but wanted to make sure I got one.

week 5
week 5 001.jpg

week 5 002.jpg

noticed that he has started to show a bit of aggression to some of his tankmates this week, nothing serious yet, mock charge type things...will be interesting to see how long it remains harmless.

The way you care for your fish is inspirational bro. You are getting up there, with a few others, in my favorite all time collections of fish. I look forward to all your updates. :)

Thanks bro, very much appreciated...glad I could return the favor, have said it before but if it weren't for pics of your Lac, I probably would not have gotten a Hoplias. :)

wow he grew fast!
whats the secret?
all GATF i have owned or seen grew at a snail's pace...
That's weird, really not doing anything special with this guy...I'm hoping he keeps eating the way he has been though, this guy can put away the food sticks man.

Nice Goliath! He seems to have a great personality

As for Growth, Id have to say the pellets/aro sticks that is getting him up there so quick.

Thanks,
Every couple of weeks I'll clear off about half the surface of duckweed and he's more skittish until it recovers the surface. I definitely see what you guys have all said about them being spooky.

Agree about the pellets, I'm thinking they're behind his growth for sure.

atleast you can get good pics, mine hates the camera

Thanks, it's pretty tough to get good pics with all the vegetation, looking to move him in another 6 weeks or so. Hopefully will get some better shots without all of the debris in the water.

couple quick shots for the week.

week 6
week 6 001.jpg

I liked this one, shows how bulky he's getting now. I think he's growing a little quicker this month then last.

I love the updated shots. I need to learn how to take photos of my Vittatus, Godric.
