Well the snow is prolonging my fishing season :irked:

At the moment all the fish im keeping are: JK-FH, sailfin pleco, green phantom pleco, RD-FH x 2, ZZ-FH, and two small dats!!

Hopefully ill have the 180 up and running by the end of March. I plan on doing mostly CA's. Only SA'a im plan on doing is a white saum GT and a pair of festae, I canted wait!!!!
Sounds good man.
Watch out for that white saum and festae mix. My festae hated my gold saums. Luckily they were still juvies when I had them. I just went in another direction with the hobby.

Mine love their algae wafers and their shrimp. Soon I am going to be getting some type of vitamins to soak the shrimp in cause I have some stubborn dats so they should be getting their vegies. They were eating massivore too but I am a little low on funds right now but as soon as I can I am going to order a 2 pound bag of them as long as they don't rip me off on shipping. No stores carry the bags that big.

are you talking about the shrimp? or the vitamins?

Because the food is actually cheap.. despite what people may think with carnivorous pleco.. u dont need to spend $20-40 bucks on a bag of hikari sinking pellet... Frozen market shrimp in market is about $3.99-5.99 and cucumber/ zucchini is no more than average 30-60 cents.. and they get all the vitamins they'll need from those food..

Plecos are actually a lot easier to take care of than other fish species..

Yeah its a toss up with that mix. I pulled it off before so hopefully I can do it again!!!!

This will be the total stock:
-V. Argentea
-C. Sajica(pair hopefully)
-Barred midas,or chuncho, or amarillo(i have to have one of the three)
-Honduran Red Point(pair hopefully)
-White saum GT
-festae(hopefully pair)

I have never tried zucchini or cucumber with these guys but I did with a L-191 that I recently had and I would end up pulling out uneaten slices of it every morning so I gave up on it. I traded him in for store credit when the L-264 died and added the small goldie to the 120. I just felt bad for the L-191 cause he wouldn't touch any vegies and would only eat at my driftwood and occasionally some shrimp.
They still have him in the store and I really loved him but I felt like I was depriving him.

Sorry but edit... I was mentioning about adding vitamins to the shrimp. But that is mainlly for my dats. The dats are getting stubborn on what they chose to eat and I feel like I am lacking in the "making sure they are getting a well balanced diet" catagory.

ah.. icic

Ya.. I am no dats guy.. although most of my fish buddies have highly recommended me into getting one..

Ya. .L191.. are hard to keep... :( I've lost 3.. two from starving themselves.. and another I suspect the tank was too warm.. and he just couldnt handle the temperature.. he was fine too. and somehow.. out of no where it died..

As much as I love Royal plecos.. I think i'll stay away from those for awhile.. they are in my opinion hard to keep in community.. unless all of your plecos are wood eaters..

Yeah that is a shame.
So do you think just a diet of shrimp and wafers is good for the goldies? I think I'll try some zucchini tomorrow but I'm not giving my hopes up. They love bloodworms too but that is mainly for my lil jurnese that I have.

ya.. i would do zucchini.. boil it a bit and then put it in the tank with a fork..

I didnt believe in zucchini at first. until i saw in person one of my goldie going after it.. cucumber is good too

But shrimp and veggie is important for L14s.. i kinda wish people will post Goldie in the wild and how their habitat is like.. i've seen enough amazon underwater films to know that the the amazon river bed is very sandy..

anyways.. shrimp is key for them... this will ensure proper growth from these plecos... from what i've heard.. goldies tend to grow very fast... unlike royal plecos..

Should I shoot for sand or does it not matter?

It doesnt matter.. pleco will adapt well to its surrounding.. even if ur bottom is bare or sandy or pebble rocks...

Your current pebble stone setup is fine.. but make sure to provide it with some form of cave or covering that the pleco will feel save under...

As long as you have enough covering for it they will do fine... Although breeding is entirely something else... I've been looking for caves lately and it seems the best cave are actually NOT pleco caves.. but rather pottery jars... the old fashion kind.. Those will be hard to look for.. and i have no oven kelm to bake any pottery i make.. even if i know how to make pottery...

ya.. breeding is a tough challenge..
