my GT needs friends? suggestions?

they were no where near being too big for food, they could have been an expensive but tastey bite size morsal. they used to steal food from his mouth so they were a "threat" to his food. he had very strong paternal instincts towards them for whatever reason. of course throwing a large uaru in with a large GT would spell trouble. throwing any 8" cichlid into a GT's tank would spell trouble for the "invading" fish.
the point i was trying to put across is that, with cichlids, nothing is impossible because each fish is different. granted this would be an extreme example of how things could work and its a risk doing it but it can work.
also, uaru A. are not as weak or fragile as everybody seems to think. they also have some wicked teeth behind that cute exterior that they arent afraid to use.

I wanna go with like 6 silver dollars and maybe a male convict

I had a school of red hooks that were the same size as full grown silver dollars when I had to sell them because my 75 was too small. After owning them I would say they need at least a tank 6' long to see them act naturally. I replaced them in the long run with tiger barbs and filament barbs.

Giant danios are pretty good, I've got 3 in with my breeding pair of gts. The male had a bit of a go at first but he couldn't catch them and gave up. I'm thinking about taking them out though to make sure any stray fry are safe.

ive got my 6" green terror in a 55 with a pike whos 4" and a dempsey around 4" who are going to a 125 this month for the simple fact that a 55 is too small for them. My suggestion is maybe a firemouth or convict even a salvini but in the long run a bigger tank is the best option.

Fair enough, there are always exceptions, are you planning on keeping them together long-term? I'll be interested to see how it turns out. Would be great if it works!

And I know all about uaru teeth first-hand, I've been bitten by my 7" male several times while he's guarding eggs!

Gonna have to agree with the others and say a 55g is too small for any cichild tankmates. I would go with the barbs or some giant danios.

tiger barbs and danios
