My Gulper 8" ate my 5" Pearsie

Ha, yeah they will even try and eat each other. Cannot trust a gulper!

It is a conflicting datum: many agree with you and many profess that the gulpers co-exist just fine (unless starved badly, I guess). There are good discussions on that topic in the search results I linked above. I must admit though not having a personal experience with this awesome cat.

Then RTC may eat it, for sure in a small tank, less sure in a large pond but such a small gulper in a big pond is a moot point. If a fish fits in an RTC's mouth, it will eat it... in a small tank for sure. Simple.

I've decided not to get one, I don't want to put that much money into one and have issues with the RTC

lmao im sarry for your loss man but if you want entertainment that is what you got i have seen a 6 inch gulper eat a 8" pb i swear those fish have the biggest eyes for food ever and the belly to back it up perfect example of gluttony im still reading on them to see if there is anything that thay wont eat. hope all is well with him good luck and it is good to hear that you weren't to attached to what is know his meal for a week

HansonC you sound like a new fish keeper and a clueless one too, I don't think you should try putting a gulper with an RTC. You are probably way over your head right now with the RTC as it is.

BUMP..

So He's doing well, but there's an issue arising. One of the Peasie's fin's, maybe the dorsal has punctured the Gulpers elastic like belly. Oddly the Gulper is doing pretty well all considering. Any ideas on for minimalizing infections? Salt? maybe an extra Wc or so? I would think the fin spine will just pass through as the digestion keeps on working. I mean fish loose large metal hooks over time. Let's hope.

I'd not mess with him - you risk doing lots more damage.

I have had this happen with one of my wallagos (7") who ate a tankmate he wasn't supposed to (a 5" Hemibagrus wyckii). Wyckii's pectorial serrated spine punctured his tummy and was almost fully sticking out. Having given him 2 days, I started feeding again and he ate as if nothing was happening. This accelerated the passing of the wyckii's skeleton and all went back to normal in a week or so.

I think a bit of salt could be an ok precaution.
