My Idea and should I go for it Now

Ok so about Last August I finally had a good stock of African cichlids and found myself happy now I find myself thinking about my deep seeded love for the
Jack Dempsey !
Now don’t get me wrong I love my tank but there’s only 1 big enough for a JD and a Severum well my pet shop will take them in on credit making it extremely easy for me to walk away with a electric blue JD !!!!
And they are in stock……. Now the dumb thing I will do is leave the clown loach idk exactly but my pet shop will tell me.
my husband says no to wait but what am I waiting for??? But there’s a fish he has grown fond of I think a different solution can be found I have a 55 gallon to sell and his fish could live solo or with 1 friend in something like a 20 long…….. any thought on my predicament do I get another small tank for 1 fish so I can put one in the big tank and reason I don’t set up the other large tank islack of money to buy supplies such as a canister etc so tell me to go for it or be patient I’m strees Out over this

Welcome aboard

I know a few years ago many were having problems with the Electric Blue Jack Dempsey due to poor genetics hopefully issues with them has improved. I personally had one that survived for a little over 2yrs. Also don’t give your Clown Loach away sell it they are not cheap especially large ones.

Thank you I didn’t know that about the electric blue…… Is the common JD anything like that I would like to get one that will live quite awhile I’m looking for somewhat how do I put it like he knows I give him food his attention to me won’t be aggressive but no flowerhon I get that just a 7-10 live line

What size is the largest aquarium? You definitely will need space for territorial reasons.

These aren’t the types of fish that get lonely. Short of a mate, they’d prefer to be the only one of their species on the planet.
Though severums are extremely mild mannered, mine wouldn’t hurt a fly.
Acaras have a great personality and would mix well with a sev.
Jd is a much meaner fish and would be better off with tougher cichlids like convicts. It could hurt a sev or a acara pretty easily.
In a 55 you could get likely away with a sev + acara or jd + convict as well as dithers for each without much problems.

The max aquarium is a 55 gallon for a JD I’m hoping so I have a EBA but I can trade him

55 gallon, in my opinion will eventually be a home for one of those fish, not any of them together. A big male convict could fill out a 55 alone. Severum will outgrow it. JD may be okay alone but will be pushing it.

Ok well I am ok with that doing just a Jack Dempsey in fact it was my original plan until someone told me he needs friends while young until 4in or he will kill them so I can rehome them
