So maybe some cheap just common community fish is what I have decided would be best no worries that wayWhen young they are skittish, so either fish will help it be comfortable. Friends aren’t the word though, more like future punching bags.

I do and I would love to give them back it’s just that that is the only fish they won’t take back because their largest tank is a 20 long most their fish are sold around 2in approx or under some tetras and sword tails yes would be eaten eventually but he will have a little company until he…… I am going to be live feeding on occasion anyway so him ending up alone is not a issue because honestly he’s the only fish I want but I can’t rid of 4-5 extra 4in JD that wouldn’t work but swordtails until he eats them would work for me …. Is that evil I don’t want a bunch in there a couple maybeYou don't have a local fish store? Usually can bring the JDs back to the store for a few bucks credit, or even if you don't get credit, you can rehome them to the store for free.
The idea is to pick your favorite JD since all fish are a bit different in terms of personality etc like any animal will be. The JDs also will be more comfortable and active at a small size in a group.
But, if you can't go that route, should be fine to get a single JD and some community fish, they will just probably be eaten at some point. I would go with swordtails over tetras, they get a little bigger and are tougher.
Well can I just say add 2 sword tails and 6 tetras at the beginning so he is not alone and when he wants them gone when he is ready they will be gone ????? It’s strictly for company unless he can live from 2in forward in life and be solo in the endDon't get stuck continually adding new smaller fish (from the store) each time you lose one.... Without proper 1-2 month quarantine (most don't do this), your JD will have a high chance at exposure to parasites or illness .

The 5-6 individuals is definitely a good idea. But should I star the tank with just the 1 fish Jack Dempsey will he be ok as a 2in solo
Because I can’t just get 5-6 as suggested below I couldn’t rehome them is the problem there
Any fishes natural habitat is larger then any aquarium now if we all afford 10,000 gallons of aquarium for 1 fish we would somewhat be close not a good comparison but if it comes to it he will move to a 75 I’m not a cruel personA 55 gal tank is akin to a rut in the road.
Here's the habitat JDs are found in, in nature.
That’s my thoughts and this will all be done at once basically…… I’m a person who gets it done 1 time ……. I don’t mind some live feeding either in fact this may sound horrible but one reason why I am so in love with this fish if it is small or big he will get it out of his way kinda LOL so he will have friends while small and snacks if he wants but until he does that it won’t be encouraged put it that way! LOL sounds silly but just me…..If you add them in at the same time it's fine. First time inhabitants of the tank from the same store would be in the same quarantine tank anyway.
