Sorry for your loss:(

I guess it's hard for some members to believe that placing a large predatory fish with smaller ones isn't safe no matter what.

Understood...And if I came across another small Ntt, I would put it in my tank again..

thats awesome :headbang2.... epic fail on your part for mixing them.... anything that will fit in a datnoids mouth is food...

Yup i agree....If its mouth is big enough its dead.

I disagree with this. I have kept all kinds of dats all different sizes with no problems.

And Nic why is this "awesome"? :screwy:

Sorry about the NTT

I remember hearing tigers won't eat other tigers, but always thought my 6-7" IT would eat anything small enough. If not my tigers, my gar for sure would, which is why I never tried it. Well, I guess this is a lesson learned for both you and me, and anyone thinking of mixing small with larger, real sorry for the loss bud....

Sorry to derail but I have a quick related question. I'm thinking about putting 4 inch clown loaches in with my 7 inch dat.....will they be safe or be lunch??

I sense some people enjoy hearing of others learning from their own
mistakes.

Tigers have been known to eat c. Loach. ( unlike tiger eating tiger, except for tigerfish 908 's experience)
I had a combo of loach and tigers for over 2 years, but my loach were all bigger than 4 inch.

Sorry for your loss tigerfish. this is the first and hopefully the last time I hear about a bigger tiger eating a smaller one.
It's very unlikely to happen, a freak occurrance, IMO.
There are many members here that r experienced in keeping tigers, who have more than often posted saying small dats can be kept with bigger ones. This is still the case I beleive....

Same here. I had many 1" dats with a 7", two 9" and a 12" dats with no problem of the bigger dats trying to eat the 1" dats.

The "only" problem is the bigger 12" dat would beat on the two 9" dats, and the 9" dats would pick on the 7" dat. They all left the 1" dats alone. As Ade stated...a freak occurrance. Sorry for your loss.

I hope I didn't come off as flaming. Dats are like many other predatory fish that typically don't eat their own.

The reality is, sometimes they do. Why it happens doesn't matter in the end. One fish is still gone at least.

I just think that really small fish being grown out should be kept away from significantly larger ones. A better safe than sorry strategy. I guess that comes from my Boy Scout years when I learned to "Be prepared" for anything.

Exactly..This was just a mistake by my IT..He didn't mean to eat the little guy..He just got caught in the crossfire like I said earlier..
