Excellent aquarium. I just find myself coming back to this thread all the time :)

Haha... thanks. I'm leaving for a week to go on vacation tomorrow, I'm going to turn off the CO2, lower the photo period, and put some plastic wrap over the top so no water evaporates... I hope everything will be fine. Is there anything else I should do?

I've used DIY co2 on my tank for quite some time (it's a ten gallon by the way) with up to (2) 2 Liter bottles at once running. I've never had any problems at night or anything else with leaving it on. If I were you, removing C02 and changing your lighting period are going to do you more harm then good. Your tank will be able to easily self sustain itself for a week.

When I've left for vacation in the past, I'll do a little fertilizer boost right before I leave, dosing slightly higher levels then I normally do on that day. I top off the water and double check my timers. But I don't mess with the lighting cycle or co2. When I get back everything's going great still. You'll notice a big difference in a weeks worth of growth though, lol. You'll be surprised how much plants grow in that short time.

Here's a link to the way my tank used to look, by the way. I've changed some of my equipment around and re-scaped, but you'll know at least I'm not talking out of my ***.

Beautiful tank... I think I'm just going to leave the CO2 in, but higher up on the side of the tank so less CO2 diffuses (less risk for the fish), and dose a little more ferts than usual. Also I'll decrease the photoperiod by an hour or two. Are those your own rams in your avatar? Makes me want to get some for this tank.

Sounds like a plan. Your tank will be fine I'm sure when you get back. :) Oh, if you put a fish feeder in there, don't use the tetra weekend ones. They come in like a gold tin or something. They rot SUPER fast and will cause mad algae. I've found the hard, white stone-like ones work best.

Unfortunately, no that's not my ram. I did have GBRs in my aquarium before, they just were always bullied so much by my dwarf gourami that they'd either kick the bucket from stress (extremely sensitive things) or I'd have to return them. I only tried twice to keep them, needless to say. When they were in the tank though, they're just stunning. One of my favorite freshwater fish of all time. And I found them to have a lot of personality and spunk too.

I don't use feeders... they just sit there and rot in your tank IME. Fish can easily go a week with out any food, they need to do it in the wild in some cases so its not a very big deal. Sorry about your Rams... but I think I'm going to pick a pair up when I get back from my vacation (assuming the tank is fine). :D
