my jags are black?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
a 55g only makes a short term growout tank for large cichlids like jags. you could probably get away with a 135 for all of them but as mentioned a 180 would be ideal.

Jags are territorial. They won't last long in a 55 especially with an equally sized Jack Dempsey. They are going to fight until one is dead, then the JD will be next. Jags go through phases of being black sometimes, but I'm sure yours are that color because of stress. 20% bi-weekly water changes are not enough for a tank that crowded. You should really invest in a much larger tank or get a smaller fish for the 55. Some fish can live solo in a 55 for life too. Good luck.

why does everyone have to assume it's NOT a grow out? and personally i think my wc are fine because thats how ive always done it and my fish have always been fine, fast growing and colorful. as for the aggresion, the JD rules the tank with out doubt, youll notice the jags are beat up and the JD is spotless. i realize all males will probly not work but i want to try in my larger tank bc im pretty attached to these fish, but if it doesnt work ill have to sell one... :|

ya i hate it when folks do that^ i dunno, i have seen jags that dark before it just appears to be a abnormality in their colors.
