JD can be easily spooked.. They are active if theres a pair... Male and Female...
By themselves.. they will not be very active.. Should find your male or female a mate.
They might seem like they get along fine and wont attack. but to be honest.. U have conflicting species of Cichlids..

Example: GT/Convict/FH/oscar/firemouth/parrot are all very territorial fish.. In a 100 gallon.. may seem big. but not for all of them long term.

My honest advice.. Either transfer some fish stock to another tank.. or get rid of some of the stock..
If yours saying ur JD is the boss.. i would suggest focusing only a few Cichlid species together..

Focus on 2-3 groups of each.. of similar species.. not a mix.. Its nice to have a variety of color... but its another thing to have a similarity of speices where fish will get alone find and cause no problems...

The ZZmalau FH u got from me would go nicely by itself or with the parrot.. (Should they mate) they will become Bonzai or Killing parrot Flowerhorns.

Green Terror is good by itself

Convict is a cichlid that will mate with anyfish and can cause problems because they mate very fast.

Fire mouth are not very tankmate friendly, and at times can be aggressive

Oscar are pigs of all cichlid.s. they will eat and eat.. probably the fastest growing Cichlid next to Flowerhorns..

Jack Dempsey are very quiet and peaceful Cichlids if kept in large enough aquarium, They need 9 months to 1 year for full adulthood. Males will start growing around 5-6 months from 2" Female will grow 2" to 4-5" in the first 5-6 months and will grow slowly afterwards.

thank you jon! i appreicate the educational advice! im new to this fish hobby so ill listen to whatever advice i get. its always nice to get good advice rather than having people just bash on my stocklist.

now that i got my flame suit on, im asking you experts for advice. out of the 2 tanks, how should i split them up between the 60g and the 100g? and which one i should just complete remove from the stocklist. i will pick up an extra tank if i need too or just upgrade to something bigger than the 100g.

heres my stock full stock list from other smaller tanks.

2 JD
1 GT
1 Firemouth
1 ZZ FH
1 Convict
1 Oscar
1 Jag
1 Parrot
1 Pacu
2 Plecos
also i want to pick up a texas or 2.

please pair up, split, or remove!

thanks in advance!

You couldn't see the suggestion behind this?

You have a grossly overstocked 100 gal and a 60 gal sitting empty? That just doesn't make a gram of sense...

Use your empty 60 gal to offset your grossly overstocked 100 gal...

Your tank is grossly overstocked with aggressive fish... and you are wondering why your fish are hiding?

Your fish is hiding because your tank is grossly overstocked...

I'm not "bashing" you for your stocklist... I'm answering your question... your JD seems boreing because he's hiding because it is in a grossly overstocked tank...

I understand you are new to the hobby and made the newbie mistake of overstocking your tank... I don't hate you for your mistake... don't hate me for pointing it out...

i just saw bashing when i read "grossly" overstocked but ok lets start fresh, my apologies. which set of fish do you think i should shift over? which should stay in the 100 and which should be switched into the 60?

I would get rid of the jag, pacu, Oscar, parrot and 2 plecos for starters.

In the 60 gallon I would put the firemouth and the convict.

The 100 gallon could hold a JD, GT and flowerhorn adult. But its cutting it close with 2 JDs. I would get rid of one of these fish. Either 1 JD, the FH, or GT.

For the 60 gallon you could add a smaller/medium size cichlid about the same size and aggression as the FM and Con. Maybe 2 more smaller cichlids. Or you could add that parrot if you want it. But the other fish grow too large for either tank.

Lose the pacu and FH altogther, take them back to your lfs.

Keep the 2 (hopefully a pair) JD's in the 60g. It looks like your 100g is a 6' x 18" footprint. If so, pick maybe 3 of the larger remaining cichlids, or 2 larger plus maybe the firemouth and convict to keep in the 100g. Sell everything else. Just my humble opinion.

can i fit a texas with any of these guys?

No. If you want a texas you will have to totally rearrange the tanks. You can probably have a solo texas in the 60 gallon. Or you could have something like a texas, JD and convict in the 100 gallon. You got other fish you should get rid of first. You are piling it on and have a huge problem.

here are the only fish i really want to own...

FH
JD
GT
Texas
Jag
Oscar (my first fish)

anyway to keep these guys while only having a 100g and a 60g? willing to pick up another 100g if i need too... can i upgrade to something 200g+ to keep these guys together or these guys living together is just otu of the question?
