never know with JDs and convicts . . . my male JD was absolute best buds with a male convict, they never fought at all . . . and my EBJD also gets along great with convicts . . .

but yes, I do think it might help your JD if you introduced either a) dither fish, or b) another cichlid; could also try Firemouth or a female JD

Yes try some dither fish and a convict or firemouth. He might just be bored and lazy.

a dither fish is a fish that other fish can take there aggression out on, and/or make the other fish more comfterable coming out into the open.

I think some danios would do the job nicely, i used a school of danios to perk up my ebjd's awhile back and they worked out great, plus they were a little to fast for the jack to catch so they usually escaped unharmed.

I was in your exact situation with my JD and i tried a couple of different dithers in his tank. he usually ended up eaing them within a day or two.
I tried a convict and the con almost killed him.
I recently tried a school of 15 giant danios and they seem to be doing the trick so far.

It's funny, sone JDs hide all the time while others won't ever stop begging for food...
I have 4 in my 90. Three are all over the place and the 4th only come out at feeding time. I think adding a fish to liven up the house would be good.
