My lep lost an eye last night.

My 10" lap lost it eye last night. Tankmates.....4"ornate,5" hijuta gar, and 6" adonis pleco. When i turned on the light the pleco was only 2 inches from the lap. So my guess is the pleco.
I dont understand why a 10" lap wouldn't fight any of these fish off. Lets see what you guys think. Any guesses?

do plecos have the ability to take an eye out? i thought their mouths were like little suckers, most they can do in terms of aggression is push other fish around?

just a guess. i would think the gar cause it has sharp teeths.

I would wager maybe the ornate as they can be testy sometimes.

At work. Will post a pic when i get home. Their is no damage around the eye. Looks like it was perfectly scooped out or.....sucked out. So pissed at my adonis pleco right now.

Very weird. Well a guess this adonis just decided to show its true colors. Someone will be the proud owner of an adonis soon. Ill tell them to buy fish eyes at the store so i cant eat.

My largest lap had an eye taken out about 7 or 8 years ago. She's still fine. I wouldn't rule out a straight accident. If it got caught on a decoration it could easily be removed. I've always attributed mine to a scrap over food.

Add some salt to your tank to help keep infections away. But he should heal and be just fine, I have had many fish lose eyes from other tank mates.
