I think you may have misread the post...
Actualy Vicious said correctly because Ollie said "Its a Macrochelys" which means he was refering to Macroclemys.

OK, so its not an Alligator Snapper,
not a RES (what's a RES?),
and a Common Snapper is not the same as an Alligator Snapper.
I get it.

But I also red there are a lot of hybrids.
But taken its a Common Snapper, and I believe you all when you correct me, the lovely bugger is not gonna be as large as an Alligator Snapper would be.
Right?
Thats good news then.
My Red Eared Slider was over 30 centimeter. About 13" that is.
I red and searched a lot before I took this one in.
The only thing I got wrong was its name.
Size, maintenance and all has no big differences between the species.
So whats in a name? :D

The substrate is kinda granulated mud. But someone could name it little pebbles.
I reckon in nature there are also bebblebeds.
But Im not tending to be stupid and take your advice in consideration.
I observe him feeding and exploring, and by any time I can place him
in another tank.
Cause call me stupid but when he outgrows his larger pebbles should I replace them by boulders?
You can take my joke, I know you can!
A RES is a red eared slider. There have been no hibrids so far with this turtles, only Integrates. Yes he is not going to get as big as a aligator snapping turtle, but he is still going to need a huge tank, preferably one of thouse tanks used for inland aquaculture, most fish tanks are simply not suited. As for the substrate, actualy in most rivers where this species live, the bottom can be covered with either huge boulders or mud, aquatic plants, etc. Smaller pebles are possible threat if he ingests them and this guys do alot of stuff by night. If you ask me the risk is not worth it and soon he is going to be such a messy feeder that you will likely have to give up on any substrate for clean porpouses. And dont forget this guys grow fast.

What is the difference between intergrate and a hybrid? I always just assumed they were the same...

RES =Red Eared Slider. :wall: :D Im learning.
This first tank of him is just to give him a good start.
Later there wont be any substrate. He'll live in an indoor pond.
I have a Cat, so it has to be a closed area.
For now he lives with 5 juvenile Yucatan Mollies. They're faster then his bite.
Im having a lot of fun with the little Snapper.

Thanks for the compliments everybody.

Hybrid-cross between 2 diferent species
Intergrate-cross between 2 diferent subspecies of the same species, in this case between the comon snapper and the florida snapper, which now belong to the same species acording to taxonomists. The south and central american snappers have been elevated to diferent species status.

Cool. Im learning. I like it.
I called my snapper Joy.
Here some pics of her. I placed a light above her with a UV-B peak.
