My Male Festae Progression Thread-From Egg to Today

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great thread. You have given me a ideal.

Nice thread and beautiful fish. He looks great. Looks like a little piranha in the second to last photo.
Probably the best festae pair on MFK. You just don't see a lot of big ones. Stunning pair and love the progression.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Truly great pair of Festae.

Great looking fish. He just keeps getting better. Love the thread.

Damn.... 4 years to grow to be the monster he is today. Great work man.

Thanks, thanks a lot everyone. He's my pride and joy in fishkeeping. And yeah four years is a long time. Some cichlids seem like they can hit 13" in a year lol.

Excellent thread idea! Time and time again I am impressed by how you healed that female Festae. She's by far my favorite female Festae! It was an easy choice picking that male out of the bunch of juvies. He was destined for greatness.

Thanks, she turned out really nicely didn't she. I don't know if the male was destined for greatness but at least he was destined to live a while longer and grow to full size. I sold his brother to a guy who threw him into a tank full of big mean CA's and it got killed in less than a week. :(

He seems more gold and red than im used to seeing on males he looks so awesome do they still spawn? My male has alot more green on him and his bars are visible faintly makes me wonder if he's showing off to the female. Have you noticed what moods and behaviors relate to the showing and disappearing of the bars on these fish? Im trying to 'read the bars' to determine my fishes feelings. My male is pushing 12" and female is around 7"

You sure? He doesn't look any more gold and red than most I've seen. I hardly ever see the really green ones any more.

When he was in the Dovii tank, he stayed barred up constantly with a black dorsal fin. Now he only bars up here and there when he's in the mood to spawn.

Great job with both of them. That male was an easy choice of the two, lol. The female has more red than any other female I've seen. Oh, that Dovii was huge... I'm not sure even I would have tried that one, lol. Thanks for posting, I really enjoyed this thread... keep uo the good work.

LoL I think anyone would have chosen him over the other. I agree the female is super red, more so than most. And I really liked the Dovii, I gave him to a guy with a pond after seeing Mel's video of his. After seeing that giant Dovii, I knew I couldn't house him for the long run and the longer I kept him the more difficult it would be to part ways.

Great thread. You have given me a ideal.

Thanx!

Well, I hope they breed at least one time successfully. I'd like to get some fry from that pair. No pressure, Balton!:) I'm just sayin'...

I have plans if they lay eggs again. I'm going to try and take the eggs out or separate the parents from them. They just really like the taste of eggs a little too much. :D

Ill post mine in a few days im waiting on new lighting that should be here Monday and im also treating for internal parasites not that they have them but as precautionary measures he's green! More green than most of my other males

You know what... that is why I sold my Dovii a few days ago. I knew I could not house him... unless I got rid of all my other fish and even then a 265 seems tough for a full size Dovii, lol. He had lots of blue on the fins (Costa Rican)... I really liked him, but had to do what was right. Later and thanks again for the thead.

I always love seeing updates on your festae Balton. I'm currently growing out 15 of Umbeekings festae right now, and even with how awesome the genes these fri come from are, I can only hope to have a few turn out as nice as your pair. I don't mind telling you, I'm very jealous. Thanks for putting the effort into the progression thread. I'll be revisiting it allot in the future, I'm sure:)

Thanks again!
Rob
