Ok. I have a 40 gal. long with a 3" flowerhorn, a 2" red devil, and a 3 1/2" mayan. The mayan is the tank boss at the moment, but not indefinitely considering the tank mates. The mayan was sold to me at 50% off as a gold severum. I knew it wasn't a gold severum since I used to have one. So i bought it out of curiosity. I don't know alot about mayans but I do know if the other two fish turn out to be male it will be bad for it. I plan on getting one or two bigger tanks 75 or larger. I was wondering if anyone owns a mature mayan and how would it hold up with an agressive tank mate as an adult? Do they grow as fast as fh's and devils? I hear they max out around 9". Is this true? Do they have distinguished personalities like a devil? I just don't want to invest alot of time and energy into a fish that is going to get beat up or bore the heck out of me. Somebody convince me I should keep it...!

my mayan was way nastier than my Festaes/Motas/Doviis & Labiatus ever were. I gave my brother mine @ 8 inches and he lives in a 125 by himself and has killed every fish put in the tank with him, including an 8 inch f1 labiatus from rapps and a 10 inch female dovii. mean mean mean with 0 tolerance for others.

Sounds like I may have some problems in the near future! Thanks for the info. I have a couple bigger tanks waiting to be setup if i need them separated. I had no idea they were that agressive.

MY MAYAN IS MEAN AS DOO DOO! HES IN A 150 W/ A FESTAE HIS SIZE AND A FISH DOUBLE HIS SIZE AND ITS HIS TANK. ID KEEP HIM. THEY HAVE A BLUISH HUE TO THEM AS THEY GET OLDER. NOT AS VIBRANT AS A FESTAE BUT STILL A NICE FISH.

Cool! My mayan's vertical bars change color with its mood, will it continue to do this as an adult? I may keep it, I just dont want any fin damage to my other fish. They haven't been too physical yet just alot of chasing But they are still small with plenty of room for the moment. By the way that is a cool profile pic!! Good looking jag..

my breeding pair are a just a pain they always fight the dovii that is the same size they both get there own side of the tank and when one crosses its like civil war. kinda thinkin about getting rid of them. to free up room in my tank
